It was initiated with the idea to bridge the gap between occidental sophistication and oriental orthodoxy. Small in size, however with large plans, this current organization's two main objectives were to bring state-of-the-art equipment and technical know-how to Indian industries through imports and to invigorate Indian exports and give it the stimulus it required. Today, barely seventy years later it imports an extensive range of sophisticated machine tools from Europe, the USA, and Japan alongside built up ties with all the major countries of the world and has executed many important projects successfully.
