Henkel Adhesive Technologies India Pvt Ltd, in partnership with an integrated logistics and transport solutions company that has a tie-up with an EV retrofitting solutions provider, has flagged off the country’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for commercial logistics—marking a landmark step in India’s green mobility journey. The pilot operation connects key industrial hubs via two inaugural routes—Chennai to Pune (1,321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km).
The re-powered electric trucks, equipped with a complete electric powertrain kit, deliver a range of 250 km per charge with payload capacity of up to 8 tons. A single round trip on the Chennai–Pune route helps save approximately 1,212 kg of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, underscoring the substantial environmental impact this transition can make across India’s logistics chain.
For Henkel, mitigating climate change is a core element of our climate strategy. To achieve our net-zero target, we aim for at least 90 percent absolute emission reductions through abatement across at least 95 percent of all scope 1 and 2 emissions and across 90 percent of all scope 3 emissions by 2045. We intend to reduce emissions from upstream and downstream value chain activities by focusing on eco design, low-emission materials, supplier engagement, and carbon-efficient logistics. This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions.
