Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt Ltd performed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of the first-ever Air Conditioner and Compressor Manufacturing unit at Ponneri, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company is a 100 percent subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, and a world leader in electric and electronic equipment.
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation plans to invest INR 1891 crore as a 100 percent foreign direct investment towards the set-up of an AC and Compressor manufacturing facility, which will spread across 52-acre land at Origins by Mahindra at Peruvoyal Village, Gummidipoondi Taluk, Thiruvallur District, located in Chennai.
The first-ever factory will manufacture Room Air Conditioners and Compressors which will be developed as per the requirements and needs of the Indian market and will cater to the Residential, Light Commercial, Hospitality, Educational, and other diverse sectors of the country. Mass production of AC and compressors is to start from October 2025, and it is estimated that the initial annual capacity will total up to 3,00,000 Sets of room air conditioners and 6,50,000 compressors.
The Bhumi Pujan ceremony for Air-conditioner and Compressor factory project of Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI) was presided over by the Kazuhiko Tamura, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Electric India, along with the Naohiko Hosokawa, Director and Living Environment Division Head, Mitsubishi Electric India, in the prestigious presence of Masahiko Konishi, Senior General Manager, Overseas Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Systems Division, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation; Toru Onoda, Deputy Senior General Manager, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Shizuka Works, Japan. The program was initiated with Bhumi Pujan and Homam, followed by the Coconut Breaking & Stone Laying Ceremony conducted by the delegates in Chennai, India.
