Chiron Group Restructuring: Bundling Production and Assembly

The Chiron Group is a leading global supplier of machining centers, primarily for automotive and aerospace industries. It recorded a critical decline in demand, during early 2019. Activated by the change in the automotive industry and the debilitating of the global economy. The circumstance was exasperated in 2020 by the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Anticipating a further decline and exceptionally unpredictable markets. Resulting in a significantly diminished degree of workload and flimsy sales development.

To secure the future, the management, supervisory board, and owners have initiated a comprehensive restructuring. This includes the consolidation of production and assembly in Tuttlingen and Neuhausen o. E. plants. Focusing the concentration on service & sales of Stama products at the Schlierbach location. The assembly and application departments to be moved to the Neuhausen plant. In addition, the group will concentrate on its core competencies of milling and mill-turning in the future especially with the sale of Scherer Feinbau GmbH and completion of its takeover by EMAG, the Southern German machine builder.

"This decision was not easy for us. But we must act now to secure the future and lead the Group out of this crisis stronger than before. The Supervisory Board and the owners support this course," explained Vanessa Hellwing, Managing Director, Chiron Group on the realignment of the group.

On focusing in Stama sales & service, she further added, "These measures will entail cutbacks. At the same time, we are bundling our production capacities in one of the most modern machine tool factories in Europe. We are also strengthening the precision and medical technology sector through a cooperation with a Swiss manufacturer of small machining centers. We are also further intensifying the successfully launched activities in the field of Additive Manufacturing. We made all these decisions after thorough analyses and careful consideration and are convinced that we are pursuing the right strategy for a successful reorientation in the interests of our customers."

"Our goal is to keep the Group capable of acting in the short term and to create competitive advantages in the medium term to secure as many jobs as possible. We are doing this with a comprehensive package of measures. We have carefully examined all the alternatives and consider the initiated reorganization as necessary and future-proof," opined Dr Armin Schmiedeberg, Chairman, Supervisory Board, Chiron Group.
