CII GreenPro Summit 2026 Drives India’s Industrial Decarbonization Agenda

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Products and Services (GreenPro) Council, successfully organized the 9th edition of GreenPro Summit 2026, under the theme ‘Green Products Driving Decarbonisation in Value Chains’, bringing together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, sustainability experts, manufacturers, and green product innovators to deliberate on accelerating India’s transition towards low-carbon, resource-efficient, and circular value chains.

The two-day Summit aims to serve as a national platform to showcase how green products, sustainable manufacturing practices, and collaborative partnerships can significantly reduce embodied carbon and strengthen India’s journey towards achieving its Net Zero ambitions.  

The Summit highlighted the growing importance of sustainable procurement, green product certification, lifecycle thinking, and responsible manufacturing. The deliberations revolved around driving decarbonization across the automotive supply chain, net-zero and resource-positive buildings, and global mechanisms to accelerate the decarbonization roadmap for manufacturing processes and the entire value chain. From raw material sourcing and product design to logistics, construction, consumption, and end-of-life management across sectors.

The inaugural session was graced by Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar, Chairman, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Government of Maharashtra; Kamal Bali, Chairman, Green Products and Services Council and President & Managing Director, Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd; Milon K Nag, Deputy Chairman CII Western Region, Chairman & Managing Director, K K Nag Pvt Ltd;  Dr Poorva Keskar, Director, Vke Environmental; K S Venkatagiri, Chair, Global Ecolabelling Network & Executive Director, CII GBC; and S Karthikeyan, Executive Director, IGBC, GreenPro & CII CIES.

The summit also witnessed leadership recognition to TVS Motor Company for demonstrating leadership for excellence in green supply chain management for the OEMs. The summit also recognized Brakes India Pvt Ltd Foundry Division, and Lumax Industries Ltd as green champions in supply chain. During the inaugural, there was also the launch of the Decarbonization of the Kolhapur Foundry Cluster – A GreenPro Initiative Report, recognizing the collective efforts of the foundry sector in embracing sustainable manufacturing practices.

Delivering the keynote address, Mhaisekar said, “Development and sustainability must go hand in hand. As a nation, and indeed as the global community, we cannot stop development—we must ensure that it is pursued responsibly and sustainably. Our sustainability journey has evolved significantly, from simple initiatives such as tree plantation to new generation mechanisms like carbon trading, carbon taxation, and lifecycle-based environmental management. India has immense potential to achieve carbon neutrality through multiple pathways, with energy efficiency being one of the most impactful. As industries continue to innovate, products themselves will increasingly become carbon neutral, and by 2035 we are likely to witness a transition from a purely economic perspective to a carbon-conscious economy. I commend CII GreenPro for putting together such a platform for discussion and am confident that the deliberations over these two days will bring in action for the nation.”

Addressing the gathering, Bali stated, “The world is witnessing multiple transformative shifts, and one of the most defining among them is the ecological and environmental transition. The choices we make today—in the products we design, the technologies we adopt, and the partnerships we build—will determine the competitiveness and resilience of industries in the future. The encouraging part is that the starting line is the same for all of us; what will distinguish leader nations is the speed and commitment with which they move forward. Partnership is becoming the new leadership. I commend CII Green Business Centre for playing a pivotal role in enabling industries with the frameworks, standards, and platforms giving a head start and lead for India’s transition towards a sustainable future.”

Venkatagiri, talking from a global perspective, commented, “Sustainability is rapidly becoming a defining business imperative rather than a compliance requirement. Customers, investors, and global supply chains increasingly expect products with lower environmental footprints and greater transparency. Indian manufacturers have a tremendous opportunity to position themselves as global leaders by embedding sustainability into product development, procurement, and manufacturing. Green value chains will not only reduce emissions but also enhance innovation, resilience, and long-term business growth. Manufacturers adopting sustainability today, have access to the larger global markets."

Karthikeyan stated that, “Across the world, the sustainability agenda is evolving from ‘green’ to ‘low carbon’. This transition is driven by climate commitments, sustainability reporting, responsible procurement practices, supply chain decarbonization, and growing demand for low-carbon products and solutions. The journey towards credible decarbonization begins with understanding where we stand, and lifecycle assessment provides the foundation for measuring environmental impacts and identifying opportunities for improvement. Today, GreenPro has certified over 15,800 eco-labeled products from more than 810 companies across 54 product categories, reflecting the growing commitment of Indian industry towards sustainable manufacturing. As markets increasingly prioritize transparency and environmental performance, we are confident that the adoption of GreenPro-certified products will continue to grow, strengthening India’s leadership in low-carbon manufacturing and sustainable value chains.”

The CII GreenPro Summit 2026 reaffirmed that green products are emerging as a cornerstone of India’s decarbonization strategy, enabling industries to reduce emissions across value chains while creating long-term economic, environmental, and social value. The summit concluded with a strong call for deeper collaboration among policymakers, manufacturers, technology providers, academia, and consumers to accelerate the adoption of certified green products and position India as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing and climate-responsive value chains.
