Hindustan Zinc Reports Record Production Numbers for Q4 FY23

Hindustan Zinc Ltd, a Vedanta Group company and one of the world’s largest and India’s only integrated producer of Zinc-Lead and Silver, has announced its production numbers for the fourth quarter and year ended March 31, 2023. The company reported record-high refined metal production, crossing the 1 million-ton mark, bolstered by consistent mined metal production.

In FY23, Hindustan Zinc achieved its best-ever mined metal production at 1,062 kt, up 4 percent year over year (YoY), driven by higher ore production, improved mined metal grades, and operational efficiencies. The company also recorded its historic high refined metal production at 1,032 kt, up 7 percent YoY, resulting from better plant availability and consistent mined metal flow from mines. Furthermore, it recorded the highest-ever integrated zinc production at 821 kt, up 6 percent YoY and refined lead production at 211 kt, up 10 percent YoY. Record saleable silver production at 22.9 moz, up 10 percent year over year, is in line with lead metal production.

In the fourth quarter of FY23, the company reported its best-ever quarterly mined metal production at 301 kt since UG transition, up 2 percent YoY and 19 percent quarter over quarter (QoQ), driven by higher ore production and improved mined metal grades. The company also achieved its highest-ever quarterly refined metal production at 269 kt, up 3 percent YoY and 5 percent QoQ, on account of better plant and mined metal availability. Integrated zinc production was at 215 kt, up 2 percent YoY and 2 percent QoQ. Refined lead production was at 54 kt, up 10 percent YoY and 17 percent QoQ, resulting from better plant availability and consistent mined metal flow from mines. In addition, saleable silver production was 5.9 moz, up 13 percent YoY in line with lead metal production and 13 percent QoQ, in line with lead metal production and higher WIP depletion in the base period.

In wind power, Hindustan Zinc noted Wind power generation for the 4th quarter of FY23 was 71 MU, up 8 percent YoY and up 41 percent QoQ, depending upon wind velocity and seasonality impact.
