HMS New Ixxat SG-Gateways Connect Energy Control Networks

HMS Networks extends its Ixxat SG-gateway line integrating new 4G/LTE modem for cellular connectivity and 4-port Ethernet switching capabilities. These gateways operate in many areas of energy automation, such as in modern power plants and in large-scale energy consumer installations. They connect energy control networks with industrial automation devices that allow remote access and serve as gateways between different protocols and thus enabling the development of state-of-the-art IIoT applications.

It is also perfect for easy digitalization of small, outlying energy distribution stations powered by integrated 4G modem and the extensive protocol support. The 4G CAT1 connection provides 10 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream communication with low latency, high network coverage, and a universal data channel. The wireless link enables the transmission of all supported IP-based protocols including IEC61850, IEC 60870-5-104, MQTT, and OPC-UA. The 4G modem can also be used as an independent communication channel for example device maintenance and alarm messages (SMS or MQTT) which enables straight-forward implementation of predictive and remote maintenance applications.

The Ixxat SG gateways now available in new multi-port versions can securely connect networks via multiple independent interfaces on data level. This simplifies data exchange between energy automation networks and industrial Ethernet systems (e.g., PROFINET or EtherNet/IP) as well as connection to IoT-systems and cloud applications. Each segment of the network is connected separately and still can exchange information with all other segments. The overall system is easy to design and maintain due to integrated security functions, including a firewall as well as being considerably more robust and secure against unauthorized access, in comparison to conventional gateway and switch combinations.
