Sandvik Coromant Powers India’s Manufacturing Shift at TechDays 2025

Sandvik Coromant’s first TechDays in Pune offered a glimpse into what the industry’s next chapter could look like. Over three days, the Sandvik Coromant Center transformed into a busy ecosystem of ideas, innovation, and discovery—bringing together engineers, business leaders, and technology partners from across the country. Sunil Joshi, President—Sales, Sandvik Coromant India, reflects on what made TechDays such a milestone and what its success signals for the industry.

A Significant Debut

Bringing TechDays to India marked a significant moment not only for Sandvik Coromant but also for the wider Indian manufacturing ecosystem. Bringing a globally established knowledge-exchange format to Asia for the first time, TechDays 2025 served as both a showcase and a catalyst for the future of machining in India.

Hosted at the Sandvik Coromant Center in Pune, the event welcomed hundreds of visitors over three days from the automotive, aerospace, general engineering, and oil & gas industries. The theme, ‘Future Proof Your Machining’, resonated strongly in a market driven by competition, capability building, and global integration.

TechDays provided a highly interactive environment where customers, prospects, and industry professionals could move between demonstrations, partner booths, technical seminars, and production-unit visits. The format empowered visitors to explore solutions at their own pace, engage in hands-on learning, and discuss their challenges with experts from across the manufacturing value chain. This meant the event not only delivered knowledge but also fostered the trust, transparency, and collaboration desired by today’s manufacturers.

Technology in Action

A defining area of TechDays was the emphasis on practical, real-world insights. Across the three days, and with the help of the company’s strategic partners—Mastercam, Vericut, Pro-micron, and Metrologic Group—it transformed the center into a fully functioning ecosystem of end-to-end manufacturing solutions. This setup enabled visitors to experience a complete workflow, from design and CAM programming to machining, inspection, verification, and smart tool monitoring, under one roof.

The event delivered almost 100 machining and software demonstrations, each highlighting next-generation capabilities in milling, turning, drilling, digital simulation, and tool management. Alongside these demonstrations were technical seminars exploring trends, software advancements, optimization strategies, and digital workflows—crucial areas for Indian manufacturers striving to enhance productivity and global competitiveness.

The behind-the-scenes production-unit visits added another layer of value. The visits provided insights into how inserts and Capto holders are manufactured and gave visitors a deeper appreciation for the engineering behind the solutions they use. One of the most compelling outcomes was the way technology influenced real-time decision-making, with some visitors adopting new tools after seeing them in action.

Collaboration at the Core

Above all, collaboration was at the heart of TechDays. Not just between Sandvik Coromant and its partners, but also with the company’s customers, engineers, and decision-makers who attended. Its partners emphasized how the event enabled meaningful interactions around technology adoption and manufacturing challenges.

The Manufacturing Wellness Corner was a standout element of this year’s event, which encouraged a strategic perspective on long-term operational excellence. This concept emphasizes eight operational habits that have been observed in successful global manufacturers. These habits include emphasizing holistic thinking, technology adoption, sustainability, waste elimination, data-driven decision-making, strong partnerships, workforce development, and meaningful automation. Its visitors selected the habit that resonated most with them, offering valuable insight into what Indian manufacturers currently prioritize as they navigate continued change and rising expectations.

These experiences demonstrated that manufacturing excellence is no longer about isolated improvements. It’s about building cohesive systems where tools, machines, software, people, and processes work together.

Looking Ahead

Our first TechDays in Pune closed with a feeling of optimism and renewed commitment to the evolving industry. The enthusiasm and engagement from customers reflected the growing appetite within the industry for advanced capabilities, collaboration, and innovation.

For India, TechDays signaled far more than the successful introduction of a new event; it reflected a broader shift toward strengthened capabilities, greater digitalization, and more sustainable, data-driven ways of working across the manufacturing landscape. By giving manufacturers the chance to see, test, and discuss integrated solutions firsthand, the event created a platform that aligns closely with the country’s ambitions for global competitiveness.

TechDays was a space where conversations were sparked, challenges were unpacked, and the future of Indian manufacturing felt almost within reach. With more opportunities ahead to learn, collaborate, and innovate, TechDays has set the tone for how the industry can all work together to shape the future of manufacturing.
