GMDC Celebrates World Environment Day with a Focus on ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’

Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (GMDC), a leading mining PSU enterprise and the largest lignite seller in the country, commemorated World Environment Day at its corporate office and project offices with a range of exciting activities aimed at raising awareness about environmental conservation. The event, organized by GMDC, featured a tree plantation drive, a poster competition, an essay writing contest, and an engaging play centered around this year’s theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

GMDC’s commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship was evident throughout the celebration, as it is committed to sustainable development and has taken several initiatives towards protecting the environment. The corporation has taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices. By replacing conventional vehicles with zero-emission Electric Vehicles (EVs) at its corporate office in Ahmedabad, replacing plastic bags with jute bags, and planting trees in the buffer area of mining sites, GMDC demonstrates its dedication to India’s vision of a cleaner, greener, and economically stronger future.

In line with its mission to protect the environment, GMDC has embraced renewable energy sources. The corporation has installed 200.9 MW wind power turbines in Kutch, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar, harnessing the power of the wind to pave the way for a greener tomorrow. This initiative not only reduces carbon emissions but also promotes sustainable energy practices. GMDC has received recognition for its outstanding CSR contribution to the Miyawaki plantation at Smritivan Earthquake Memorial Bhuj. With a total area of 1,407 sq mt, 7,448 trees have been planted through GMDC’s CSR initiative.

As GMDC celebrated World Environment Day enthusiastically, it reinforced its commitment to sustainable growth and environmental protection.
