IEEMA Names Hamza Arsiwala as New President at 76th AGM

The Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), the apex association of the Indian electrical equipment manufacturing industry, recently announced the appointment of Hamza Arsiwala, as its new President for the year 2023-24. Arsiwala, CMD, Stelmec Ltd, took over the reins from Rohit Pathak at the 76th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association on September 29. In addition to this, the association also announced the appointment of office bearer Sunil Singhvi, CEO (Energy), Secure Meters, as the President-elect and Vikram Gandotra, Head - Utility Sales & Strategy, Siemens Ltd as Vice President for the year 2023-24. The 76th AGM and IEEMA’s Annual Convention was held in Mumbai.

Arsiwala, leads Stelmec Ltd, a prominent name in the Indian power industry that’s dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions to businesses. Taking over as the new President of IEEMA, he said, “I am honored and privileged for the opportunity to lead IEEMA through the next year as the President. Our focus for the year will be to build on strategic thought leadership for IEEMA, contribute to nation-building, and help our members expand their global footprint. We will also take ELECRAMA, the world’s largest electrical show, globally. As a leading sectoral association, IEEMA will need to build on the transition of the electrical and allied electronics industry into catering to new energies.”

Stressing to continue to build key priorities of focusing on growing the pie in new areas such as green hydrogen, energy storage, and E-mobility, Arsiwala added, “Thinking globally and transitioning from being import-oriented to an export-led industry. Our vision is to build AI/ML-empowered resilient electricity infrastructure to achieve the nation’s net-zero goal and attain global leadership across electrical equipment, GH2, and the stationary storage value chain. We are currently a US$ 60 billion industry and see ourselves to be a US$ 1 trillion+ industry by 2047, growing at a pace of 15% in the next 25 years.”

Agreeing, Singhvi stated, “To be able to grow the pie for the industry domestically and internationally, as an industry, we must focus on quality, safety, reliability, and customer experience. This year, we will embark on campaigns around quality, safety, and reliability and offer specially curated programmes for our membership at the state level to improve it. The second focus will be on innovation-driven R&D via the start-up mode; IEEMA will continue and strengthen its engagement with Startups in this field.”

Outlining the priorities for the year, Vikram Gandotra, Vice President, IEEMA, commented, “We will continue to helm policy advocacy like promoting new PLI Schemes for import substitution, improving ease of doing business, strengthening testing infrastructure, etc. for the sector. We will engage with membership at the state level more intensely and tap into the industry clusters to help them prepare for the new opportunities from energy transition and digitalization.”

Speaking on the occasion, Charu Mathur, Director General, IEEMA, said, “We are pleased to have Hamza Arsiwala as the new President, and Sunil Singhvi and Vikram Gandotra as President-elect and Vice President, respectively. Their substantial industry knowledge and rich professional experience will be of great benefit to the association and will help it achieve its strategic goals.”
