Siemens Report on Indian Cities Digitalization Readiness

Siemens Ltd’s data driven index 'Atlas of Digitalization' features Bengaluru on its status & potential to digitalization. The Atlas is an extensive guide on where cities stand today and how they can realize their potential focusing on sustainability, mobility, and opportunity.

Contending in global parameters' viz. optimal use of resources, how people get around, ways to improve individual productivity, and well-being. The city's unique challenges – including traffic congestion, water availability, and air quality – have been given scores based on digitalization readiness and potential. It also compares the transformation of cities around the world. The Indian city is included along with global cities like Berlin, Buenos Aires, London, Singapore, Dubai, Johannesburg, Los Angeles and Taipei.

Digitalization is the key to making Indian cities globally competitive and as the IT capital, Bengaluru is ideally positioned to be a model of digitalization in India. Since it is one of the world’s fastest growing cities, with a 47% surge in population density over the last decade. Home to a third of India's science & technology talent with a large proportion of tech-savvy early adopters, and highest employability rate in the country. This gives Bengaluru a strong appetite to build a city that represents the world-leading services it conveys across the globe.

Siemens has already actualized digital solutions for city infrastructure, like partnering with the airport’s operators to deliver an extensive range of proposed projects through a cloud-based IoT operating system. Further, services such as 'Siemens City Air Management' monitor air quality to provide five-day forecasts, helping residents take measures.
