Zetwerk Expands US Energy Business with Power Transformer Deployment

By MWM Desk3 min read

Editorial Highlights

  • Zetwerk successfully installed a power transformer in North Carolina, marking a strategic milestone for its US energy business expansion.
  • The manufacturing giant reduced transformer lead times to 12-15 months, significantly outperforming the industry average of 36 to 42 months.
  • Vertical integration allows Zetwerk to maintain strict control over the entire supply chain, from core components to final delivery.

Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses Ltd, a technology-led manufacturing company with businesses across energy, precision, and capital goods, and its US subsidiary Unimacts announced the completion of the installation of a Zetwerk-manufactured power transformer in North Carolina.

Zetwerk’s Energy vertical revenue grew to INR 6,507.57 crore (INR 65,075.72 million), a growth of 86.90 percent YOY, contributing 69.42 percent of its manufacturing revenue in FY26.

The installation marks a milestone for Zetwerk’s energy business amid rising US electricity demand from data centers for AI capex buildout, and its push to modernize its aging grid infrastructure. Transformer supply has struggled to keep pace, with manufacturing lead times averaging 36 to 42 months, creating a major bottleneck in grid expansion.

Zetwerk’s manufacturing model, which orchestrates a cross-country supply chain across suppliers and vertical integration, helps shorten delivery timelines. The model enabled US power transformer lead times of 12 to 15 months, compared with industry averages of 36 to 42 months in the US and 30 to 36 months in India in FY2026. In FY2026, Zetwerk received orders worth INR 2,032.25 crore (INR 20,322.52 million) for power transformers.

For utilities, developers, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies, this provides an additional route to procuring equipment needed to expand and strengthen the grid.

Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Zetwerk, said, “As electricity demand grows, utilities, developers, and energy infrastructure companies need reliable access to critical power equipment. Transformer supply has struggled to keep pace, delaying projects that depend on timely deliveries. At Zetwerk and Unimacts, we are working to help close this gap by coordinating production across countries. By strengthening our coordination across the transformer supply chain, we aim to make essential equipment more accessible and help customers expand and strengthen the US power grid.”

Backed by Zetwerk’s vertically integrated transformer manufacturing capabilities, Unimacts offers US customers:

●      Faster delivery: helping projects stay on schedule despite market shortages.

●      Custody of the value chain: CRGO laminations, cores, core & coil assemblies, and tanks controlled in-house, giving control over both quality and lead times. Strategic relationships with long lead-time OEMs.

●      Full range, every voltage class: six transformer categories, from medium-voltage pad-mounted, dry-type, and inverter duty units to power transformers up to 500 MVA and 765 kV, built to IEEE C57 standards.

●      Bankable partner: more than INR 2,775 cr (INR 27,753.55 million) in international revenue (FY2026), a strong US legal entity, and seven facilities owned in the US.

●      Scale behind it: the backing of Zetwerk, a global manufacturing company with about INR 15,913 cr (INR 159,133.23 million) in revenue and 26 facilities.

Zetwerk subsidiary Unimacts has supported utility-scale solar projects across the US by manufacturing structural components, including piles, and torque tubes. Zetwerk and Unimacts are extending their energy infrastructure capabilities into transformers, another essential component of the power grid. Zetwerk’s transformer portfolio includes medium-voltage pad-mounted, dry-type, inverter-duty, and power transformers.
